Student Waste Painting (I Will Not Waste)
9 feet 4 inches wide X 6 feet high (maximum letter height is 12.5 inches).
Recycled acrylic paint scraps, recycled wood panel, natural plant based medium, aluminum mounts, steel screws.
Sept. 2009 - Dec. 2023

Since 2009 I have been collecting paint scraps from students' palettes. Every semester, before we use paint, I discuss how paint can harm our ecosystem and about material waste. I ask students to peel off the paint from their palettes once it is dry to clean them instead of washing the paint down the drain. I then collect these scraps. Over the years my students have used the collected scraps for various projects.

A few years ago, I found a message painted on a scrap of paper on my desk from a student that read "I will not waste". Based on this message, I created this piece by adhering the collected bits of scrap paint collected from student palettes students from 2009 - 2023 to recycled wood panel with non-toxic petroleum free plant-based medium from Natural Earth Paint.
